My Journey into Tech

Hi, my name is Jessica and welcome to my blog! To tell you how I got into to tech I must first start from the beginning of my journey.

Going into college I didn’t quite know what I wanted to study or what career path I wanted to take. I first chose to study Chemistry in hopes of one day becoming a medical doctor but soon after realized that I no longer wanted to take that path. I then began to think of what I was truly passionate about and mental health was always important to me. I then changed my major to psychology and graduated with my B.S. in psychology. Once entering into the psychiatric field and getting experience working, I again began to feel unfulfilled with life. This went on for two years, and I had no clue what direction my life was going in.

So, I did some soul searching and began to think about what career would make me excited about waking up every morning and not dreading going to work. What would push me mentally every day to extend my knowledge and also showcase my creative side. Although my first thought wasn’t tech, I eventually got here.

When the pandemic first hit and every thing shut down, I know I’m speaking for many when I say, it gave me time to breathe and reevaluate my life. What are you doing with your life? Are you happy with your career? If not, what do you need to do to get there? From that moment on I started to invest in my future and found a career field that was for me, which is tech. I then started to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript and build some small projects. Self teaching is hard but I’m glad I did it because it helped to prepare me, to go into an actual software engineering program at Flatiron School.

My experience in tech is fairly new but I already feel pushed and eager to learn more every single day. Through this new path I’m on, I will also begin to share my journey here and also provide some value to those just beginning their journey into tech and to those learning a new programming language. I hope that you’ll tune in and till next time, keep coding!
